A rapid succession of otherworldly landscapes reveal themselves in our journey to the geographical heart of the Sahara Desert, a wild and haunting place that few people reach. We travel by jeep over roadless terrain for days on end, exploring landscape features and examining rock art along the way, and in the evenings we cook hearty dinner (particularly coucous and soup) on campfires, and then sleep comfortably among the sand-dunes. Surprisingly, one of the quirks of the desert is that the hyper-dry air makes you feel super refreshed, and the scenery and colours are so majestic that you never see the same thing more than once – even night-time brings out a wondrous and endless span of stars like you have never seen before. The slide show in this page shows some of the places we encounter during the route titled Sand Sea Safari.
