THEMED ROUTES

In this section you will find suggested routes, or clusters of destinations that lend themselves to circular and eclectic routes. Each of these routes are designed according to a theme, and the destinations within each are carefully chosen for variety and pacing, as well as depth and breath of travel vision. If you are new to this website, take time to browse one or more of these themed routes to get acquainted with the kind of places where you could travel with us and how much it will cost you. You might then decide whether to travel along one of these pre-set itineraries with minor changes, or opt for a completely customised journey – in either case, you will find plenty to inspire you.

NAVIGATE BY PLACE

An alternative option is to navigate by country or region that most picks your interest, yet still arrive to the themed routes. We only organise journeys in a couple of countries or regions for the time being, mostly in Asia (with one exception), and this section gives you the opportunity to visualise where we operate – then you can use this information, as well as familiarity with the flavours of our journeys, to write to us with your specific request.

GEOGRAPHY & ARTS

In these tours, the rationale for the travel becomes the experience of geography, either through artistic expression, or by exploring certain landscapes or peoples as formed by the geographic peculiarities of their milieu. In the former, you can take a tour in which you learn about a distinct style of cooking and that way experience the geography of food and evolution of a particular cuisine; you can learn photography with a professional travel photography; you can embark on a watercolour painting tour. In the latter, you can travel to explore how a particular range of mountains where formed by earthquakes and tectonic crunching; or, for the ultimate trip, you can do one-of-a-kind journey to one of the world’s geographical frontiers.

DAYS & DETOURS

If you happen to be travelling in the areas where we operate, you can enrich your overall holiday by spending a few days on a side-trip with us – this would of course be a side-trip to one of our special destinations, which are hard or impossible to get to by yourself. Perhaps you fancy spending a few days learning photography in a quaint hidden village, or painting watercolours of old romantic villages? Or perhaps you are interested in doing a trek to a high mountain summit and then staying in the Tao temple on top? Or even riding an old steam train into remote subtropical mountains? Such brief detours are entirely customable: fire your imagination about what is possible by exploring this website, then contact us and we’ll suggest some options for you. We can take care of everything.

CUSTOMISED TOURS

All our tours are customable within the geographic range where we operate and the special flavour of our travels, and indeed we largely work with small private groups who travel on customised journeys. One way of personalizing an itinerary is by choosing a themed route and using it as a template for customising your trip, or we can design an entirely original itinerary for you. Contact us with your request or interests, and we can organize a trip based on a wide variety of cultural and natural experiences: our focus is on cultural sights, local cuisine, trekking and hiking, road journeys, immersive experiences with indigenous peoples. But we can also throw into the mix any famous attractions if you so desire.

SCHEDULED TOURS

We team up or collaborate with a few like-minded tour operators to organise a small number of scheduled tours every year. These are ideal if you are a single traveller or a couple who prefer, for budgetary or other reasons, to travel with a larger group instead of your own private group. Some of these scheduled tours take place within Tibet, a place where the logistics and cost of private-group travel is often relatively high due to long distances over difficult terrain. In any case, virtually all scheduled tours have set dates and almost all include adventure and culture activities, trekking especially. Browse this section to check upcoming scheduled tours, but bear in mind that we do not always list all scheduled tours, and it helps to write to us to see what’s available at any given time.
