Given the flavours of our journeys, you get the best of what we do, and the most personalized and meaningful experiences, by charting your own custom journey with us. Small private groups or families are in fact our specialization – in many cases, we don’t even run scheduled tours, but tours by arrangement with specific groups.

It’s possible to create your customised itinerary in the geographical areas where we work – that’s Sichuan, Tibet, and northern Xinjiang. You can get more ideas of the kind of destinations where we work by exploring the journeys section of Pepper Mountains.

In the customised trips, you choose the activities or interests you’re seeking, as well as the length of your journey with us. For example, you can choose whether you want to do day-hikes or multi-day treks; whether you want to visit historical sights such as temples or focus only on natural destinations; whether you want to include any of the famous attractions in your journey or simply travel to offbeat places; whether you are prepared to travel rough or whether you prefer luxuries where available; whether you would like to spend time working on a farm or getting close to local inhabitants by, for example, spending a day learning to cook at a local household or whether you’re simply content with visiting villages for a few hours and then moving on.

Additionally, you can also choose the travel arrangement itself and the level of luxury that suits your tastes and budget. Would you prefer to stay in the best hotels at each given destination or in guesthouses or in homestays? Do you want to travel in an SUV or would a normal car suffice? If you’re a group of 6 or more, do you want a convoy of SUVs or a mini-bus? After a day’s hiking or outing, would you like to celebrate over a good bottle of wine, or are you content with tea or water? Can you eat local food at a farmer’s house, or local eatery, or would you need the services and cleanliness and professionalism of a better restaurant? Like to wallow in authentic local cuisine – which might be oily and spicy and pungent – or do you want to tone down the fieriness and roughness of the local dishes?

By making all these choices, you also influence the price, and the price can vary widely depending on the levels of luxury that you opt for. You can choose the level of luxury and comfort, as well as opt to forego certain other frills, to alter the travel arrangements and price that suits your taste and budget. In terms of saving money, the main choices are type of vehicle, double or single occupancy in hotel rooms, and class of hotel.
