We organise various exploratory journeys or routes in the hinterland of Borneo, where a spine of mountains straddle the border between Malaysia’s Sarawak and Indonesia’s Kalimantan. The area is covered by some of the largest tracts of extant rainforest in Southeast Asia. Various combinations of treks can be had, ranging from easy day-hikes to more ambitious seven-day treks; it is also possible to immerse into the culture by lodging in a longhouse of the Kelabit people or venturing into the forest with the Penan, who are nimble hunters and gatherers in the jungle. It is even possible to visit for a retreat, staying in a farm or longhouse, and finding tranquility in a beautiful place where nature is pure, interruptions are non-existent, forest food is delectable and healthy, and the climate is pleasantly comfortable, neither hot nor cold. The mountains encapsulate the heart of Borneo, an island that conjures imagery of unadulterated nature and people of legendary spirit and hospitality.
